They Don’t Have To Believe In Your Dreams

Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business and someone else’s belief in your dream is not a prerequisite for you to achieve your dream. In life, you’ll find that whenever you’re dreaming BIG, or engaged in any outside the box thinking, the first people to run along and attempt to kill those dream are friends and family.

I don’t believe that this is a malicious attempt to slaughter your greatness, I just believe that they’ve played it safe for so long that they cannot fathom any risk taking. Most people look for security, not opportunity. Study the lives of anyone who has ever achieved anything great and you’ll find that they were never security seekers, they looked for opportunity. Joy Cometh in the Morning

Last night I asked my son, “Little man, what do you think your purpose on this Earth is?”

(I love having these philosophical discussions between his commercial breaks of Avatar: The Last Airbender) He gave it some thought and replied, “To have fun!”

“Umm, really?” “Well son,” I continued, “What do you think is the purpose for everyone else being incarnated on this planet?” Without hesitation he replied, “To help me have fun!”

That’s why I love kids (not in a Michael Jackson/Mark Foley kind of way) they tend to see life without the illusion that adults have created. What Law is written that dictates that this life has to be filled with toil and strife? What is ironic is that, being Jamaican, had I given my parents such an answer I probably would have had the living daylights beaten out of me for not having any ambition, and as you know, an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. (Nothing like a little ignorance mixed with a lot of religious zest to make a child’s life interesting)

But I digress, let’s get back to the idea of Life being fun and everyone is here to enhance that experience. Continue Reading »

From my Upcoming Book (Spring 2007)

There was a woman that I thoroughly loved; no one could’ve convinced me that I was not going to marry this woman. When I gazed upon her she would always inquire, What are you staring at? When God created her, He was having the time of His life; she was His meticulous commitment to craftsmanship. She was beautifully rendered and flawlessly finished. Not to stare would be an insult. She was definitely an offer worth investigating and I was drawn to her frame like fire to a flame. Her sweetness was indeed my weakness. Our conversations were more like a spiritual dance, we discussed the magnificent and the mundane as we engaged in intellectual foreplay. I told all my friends of my intentions to marry her and I moved from New Jersey to Florida in order to be closer to her. Our relationship was beautiful, we spent blissful hours on the beach enjoying the beautiful Floridian sunsets. She was working full time and going back to the University at night to earn her degree, I admired her ambition. We would go to see Anita Baker and Beres Hammond in concert. We both loved to laugh, so we would go to The Improv and have the time of our lives. We both shared a Caribbean heritage so we enjoyed the same music and the same food. On Friday nights we would go to the Jamaican restaurant and stuff our selves with steam snapper, jerk chicken and roast breadfruit while listening to Bob and Buju dropping some serious reggae. She was the missing variable in my perfect equation. Continue Reading »

Conversation With God

What Are You Waiting For?

The time to be right? What does that look like? How do you know when the time is right?

When the conditions are perfect? The conditions are never going to be perfect. Now is the time. Don’t wander in the wilderness trying to convince your self that you’re waiting for Me to give you a sign to enter your promise land. What more signs do you need? I have given you all the signs there are to give.

Ask your father and he will tell you that you were not planned, ask your mother and she will tell you that you were an accident. I planned and prepared for you before they were born, you are no accident. I have extended your life twenty-three years beyond your doctor’s death sentence. What are you waiting for? Twenty-three more? Continue Reading »
