You Can’t Hide What’s Inside

Remember the wisdom of Anthony Robbins, “It is in the moment of decision that our destiny is decided.” It all boils down to the responsibility of choice. Simple, but again, not necessarily easy. How do you remain cool, calm and collected when some inconsiderate soul comes along just to test your faith? How do you maintain composure in the face of incompetence? And I’m not referring to biting your lips while your blood is boiling on the inside. No, that will do even more damage to your health. What I’m asking is how do you get to a place of peace where you’re not even irritated by the irrational?

Before we answer that, let me ask you this. When you squeeze an orange what comes out? Most people will reply, “Juice” but I need you to be more specific, so the correct answer would be orange juice. How about when you squeeze a grapefruit? The answer is obvious, grapefruit juice. Is it possible to squeeze an orange and get grapefruit juice? Of course not, the only thing you can get out of something was what was in it in the first place. So when some one comes along and ‘make’ you mad, all that happen was that life just squeezed you and what was inside, came pouring out. If it wasn’t in there in the first place, it would’ve never come out. As within, so without!

Michael Richards, better know as Kramer from the television sitcom Seinfeld was heckled by a group of African Americans during one of his stand up comedy routines. Being offended, he retorted by calling them the ‘N’ word and reminded his hecklers that, “Fifty years ago we’d (meaning: himself included) have you hanging upside down with a fork up your ass!” He asked security to throw them out because they were ‘niggers’ and he went on to justify his statements by saying, “That’s what happens when you interrupt a white man.”

Now, think back to a time when you were angry. Has someone ever ‘made’ you so angry that you thought to yourself, “Man I would love to take a butcher knife and hack this fool to pieces, then cook him in a stew and have him for dinner!” Chances are, such a thought has never entered your mind simply because it’s not a part of your consciousness, yet that idea is not so far fetched to Jeffrey Dahmer. Being a murderer and a cannibal, it is possible that those thoughts could find a place to fester and grow in his mind.

Had Michael Richards not held sacred in the outpost of his mind, the idea that African Americans are niggers and should basically be lynched, there is absolutely no way such ideas would have left his mouth. All that happened was that he got squeezed by life (hecklers) and what was inside came out. Ironically, those were his words when he was on David Letterman’s show, he said, “It fires out of me…it comes through…the rage it just comes out!”

We all walk around with a mask (to a certain degree) and in the time of emotional stress, Life has a habit of removing the mask. How many times have you been in an argument with a friend or a loved one and they end up saying some hurtful stuff that you had no idea they were thinking, or they brought up some event from the past that you thought were already behind you?

Most people if asked to complete this statement, “Garbage in …” would answer, “Garbage out!” Cute, but doesn’t give the true picture. A more accurate statement would be, “Garbage in, garbage stays, garbage gets pregnant, garbage has triplets, much more garbage out.”

Now, a lot of people out there know that the ‘old’ Kirk would’ve ripped Kramer apart, oh, he would’ve caught a serious poem or two, but if you’ve been following my blogs, you also know that where the attention goes, the energy flows and I’ve decided only to place my energy on the things that I want to see more of in my life, so enough about Kramer. Keep the lesson, throw away the experience.

To everyone reading this blog …much love for you

To Mr. Michael Richards…NO SOUP FOR YOU! NEXT!
